The Baby's Growth and Development
At two weeks old, an infant has many reflex actions. Their arms and legs may jerk slightly at times, but this is normal. The infant will also have a rooting reflex. A rooting reflex is when you stroke the infant's cheek and their mouth opens and turn towards the side you have touched.
Warmth and cuddling is very important to an infant's growth and development. When an infant is rocked, cuddled and spoken to softly, he or she will respond.
Social Development at two weeks.
- The baby will try to focus on the mother's face or voice
- The baby will respond positively to the sound of human voice
- The baby may show signs of distress
Physical Development at two weeks.
- The baby will respond to sudden changes
- The baby's hands will be fisted often, due to reflex
- The baby will sleep about 70-80% of the day
Sensory Development at two weeks.
- The baby will blink at bright lights and may close eyes
- The baby will prefer contrasting colors such as black and white
- The baby may be sensitive to sounds
